    In 2009, Zaytuna College was founded in Berkeley, California, with a mission that called for grounding students in the Islamic scholarly tradition as well as in the cultural currents and critical ideas shaping modern society.

After having studied continental philosophy and existentialism as an undergraduate, Dr. Mark Damien Delp pursued primarily ancient and medieval topics, especially the metaphysics of St. Thomas Aquinas and Neoplatonism, in his graduate study. Over the years he has taught scholastic logic, medieval metaphysics, psychology and epistemology, Neoplatonism, and medieval cosmology, including courses on various ancient and medieval figures such as Plato, Aristotle, Plotinus, Proclus, St. Augustine, and St. Thomas Aquinas. Beginning at the University of San Francisco (two years), his teaching years were spent mostly at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California (12 years). Courses: Logic and Philosophy.
