Does Zaytuna accept gifts of stock?

Does Zaytuna accept non-monetary gifts?
Yes, Zaytuna does accept in-kind donations, including material assets and services. However, we generally do not accept jewelry, automobiles, or other property that must be sold/auctioned unless without agreement in advance. Before making any non-monetary gift to Zaytuna, please contact contact the Fundraising and Finance Team at 510-582-0117.

Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes, your donations are 100% tax-deductible. Zaytuna Institute is a registered 501(c)(3) organization (non-profit organization) in the state of California. All U.S. residents can make tax-deductible donations to Zaytuna Institute. If you are not a U.S. resident, refer to the tax laws of your country determine if your donations to Zaytuna are tax-deductible.

Are sales or purchases tax-deductible?
No, all ticket sales, product sales, and class tuition cannot be claimed as tax deductible expenses. For additional information, please consult your tax advisor.

Does Zaytuna accept Zakat?
Yes, you can donate Zakat to Zaytuna Institute. Zaytuna Institute does not
apply Zakat donations towards general operating or program-related expenses.
All donations indicated as Zakat will be used as direct financial aid
(tuition) for full-time students and discounts for other students in need.
If a student is unable to afford learning mateirals or class tuition, Zakat
donations can be used to pay for their respective educational expenses.
Zaytuna Institute does not distribute Zakat to individuals or families in
need of general financial support because public redistribution of funds
requires additional financial and legal oversight to comply with state laws
and regulations.
Zakat donations are subject to strict rules and regulations, and cannot be
designated for any one person or program by the donor. For additional

Can I donate to another group or organization through Zaytuna?
All donations to Zaytuna can only be applied to Zaytuna programs and operations. Donations cannot be designated to any individual employee, guest, student, or affiliate of Zaytuna Institute. For example, if Zaytuna hosts a guest teacher, donations cannot be made to the teacher through Zaytuna. In this type of situation, if you want to make a donation to the teacher, you must make a personal donation/gift to the person directly.

Does Zaytuna have a scholarship program?
No, Zaytuna Institute does not have a scholarship program, nor can we accept donations on behalf of students. If you want to help support students who require financial assistance, you can make a Zakat donation. Students in need must apply for Zakat/financial aid, and qualify for any financial assistance based on need. Please note that Zakat donations are subject to strict rules and regulations, and cannot be designated for any one person or program by the donor.

How do I know where my donation goes?
Providing complete financial transparency is our goal at Zaytuna. At the end of each year, Zaytuna Instititue will publish an annual financial report that outlines our expenses and income for the previous 12 months.
